Inteliprompter Support

Following are answers to the most common difficulties with Inteliprompter. If you are having problems with Inteliprompter, be sure to peruse these answers before calling, as these answers will cure the problem 90% of the time. If, however, you still need help, we are always here to help you at prompter@baycoast.com

We provide a QUICK START guide to enable you to get your Inteliprompter software up and running quickly.  You can view it here.

Document formatting not saved

Make sure you are saving your documents as Rich Text Files. A basic text file does not save the special information about your script's colors, size, font, or effects, but an RTF file does. To do this, when you go to save your file, click on the arrow beside "Text File [.txt]" and click on the other option, "Rich Text [.rtf]".

Poor command response time in prompter mode

Your problem may lie in one of three areas, Video settings, Scroll Speed Limit, or background applications.

The most likely culprit is in your Windows Video settings. Your Video Card, for optimal performance, should be set at 640 x 480 lines of screen resolution, at 8-bit (256) colors. This is the simplest level of video quality that Windows 9x / ME / NT / 2000 supports, and also offers the best performance.

To change your settings, go to Start… Settings… Control Panel… Display… and click on the Settings tab. From here, make sure that Desktop Size is set at 640 x 480, and that Color palette is set at 256 Colors. NOTE: you may have to restart your system to implement these changes.

Inteliprompter was designed to function on a wide variety of computers. Obviously, different speed computers will execute the prompting routines at different speeds, necessitating an overall speed adjustment, or what we call the Scroll Speed Limits. Inteliprompter is set, by default, to the speed of an average 200Mhz Pentium. This calibration may be fine for you, but if not, read on to learn how to adjust the limits for your computer.

To determine the right speed for your computer, load up any script, and then start prompting. Using your keyboard, run the speed at its slowest setting by pressing the End key. If the script is moving way too slow, the ‘Slowest Scroll Speed Limit’ number should be decreased. If the script is moving too fast, it should be increased. Next, run the speed at it’s fastest setting by pressing the Home key.. If the script is scrolling too fast, or the speed change responds too slowly, then the Fastest Scroll Speed Limit needs to be increased. To change either limit, return to the editor screen and click on Configure... Set Scroll Speed Limit. The Slowest screen will appear first. Change the number as necessary, and click Ok. Next, the Fastest screen will appear. Change the number as necessary, and click Ok. Now check the scrolling speed again..
Repeat this process until you are happy with the performance.. This calibration information is saved for all future prompting sessions.

The other issue, Background Applications, refers to applications you may have running in the background, minimized, or running in the system tray (by the clock). These could be your word processor, virus scanner, spreadsheet, or any other piece of software running on your computer besides Inteliprompter. Try disabling these to achieve optimal performance.

Jerky scrolling / Frequent lock-ups

Your video adapter plays a great role in the performance of the prompter. If your card, or computer is dated, it may not have the speed to transparently produce silky-smooth scrolling. If, however, you have a relatively new card and computer, there really should be no problems. If there are, the first try the fixes in the Video Settings section, and see if that helps. If not, before you run out and buy a shiny new card, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Have I tried the solutions in the Video Settings Section?
  • Does my system meet the minimum system requirements?
  • Have I recently updated the Video Driver?

Does your system meet the minimum system requirements? If not, that could be the culprit. If you are upgrading from the DOS version of our software and are still using the same 386, It very likely won't work well. Windows is a completely different system than DOS. It requires far more resources, but it is much easier to use. Note that Windows NT/2000 systems require more resources than Windows 95/98/ME systems to function properly. We recommend at least a Pentium 200 with 32 MB RAM if you plan on running Inteliprompter under NT.

Are you using the most recent Video Driver provided by the manufacturer? A "Video Driver" is a piece of software provided by your Video Adapter manufacturer that allows the operating system (Windows95/98/ME/NT/2000) to interface to your Video Adapter hardware. If your system behaves unnaturally, shows video in reverse colors, or simply does not display properly or at all, your video driver may be suspect. This is actually very common, and most Video Adapter manufacturers are very helpful when it comes to this. To obtain a new driver, you should contact your computer manufacturer for an updated version.
